Portus Vénéris

In Pyrenees, nature formed Port-Vendres, where the Greek navigators who wanted to join Agde to Rosas were in the habit of going. Port-Vendres is known since the 8-th century before J.C, as show it the numerous remains found in the entry of the Port. The city owes its name: Portus Vénéris, in the presence of a temple dedicated to "Venus". In 1272, in the will, " Jacques the Conqueror " gave to his son the Balearic Islands, Montpelier, Cerdagne and Roussillon. About Roussillon, Jacques the Conqueror insisted so that his son builds a port to Portus Vénéris. After his death in 1276, the Realm of Majorca was established in the will of his(her) father. Works were ended by Jacques 1-st of Majorca. But in the end of the 15-th century, everything was in ruins.
